MOUNT PLEASANT

RAF Mount Pleasant also known as  Mount Pleasant Airport is about 33 miles (52 km) southwest of Stanley. It is home to between 1000 and 2000 British military personnel, the second largest settlement after Stanley.  It was opened by Prince Andrew on 12th May 1985 following the 1982 conflict, a station constructed for the defence of the islands. Two regular airbridge flights from the UK arrive each week. MPA is self contained within the islands and has  a wide range of facilities including a gym, swimming pool, medical centre, cinema and library There is a small shopping complex.
